Boat conveyor belt in use at the Olympic Games

Since Japan did not have any artificial canoe slalom course before, the Kasai Canoe Slalom Centre was built for the Olympic Games. The Sunkid boat conveyor belt is a central element for the white-water course.

This special Moving Carpet takes the athletes and their boats back to the raised starting point. The boat conveyor belt, 48 metres long and 2 metres wide, was developed and produced by Austrian conveyor specialist Sunkid.

CEO Emanuel Wohlfarter is visibly proud of this Tyrolean contribution to the Olympic Summer Games: “Of course, we are very happy to have been able to contribute to what is probably the world’s most prestigious sports event.”

A large event like the Olympic Games ensures global attention. From 25 July 2021 onwards, 82 slalom athletes from 34 countries went chasing the medals.

Since safety and reliability of the facility took the highest priority, the customer found it easy to rely on Sunkid’s experience as a supplier of boat conveyor belts. Perfectly working technology and the outstanding event organisation combined to permit white-water competitions on the very highest level.

Czech Jiri Prskavec won the men’s canoe slalom competition at these Olympic Games, while Australian Jessica Fox took home gold among the women.

At far more than 3,700 facilities installed in about 72 countries around the world, our company is not only the global market leader, but also highly experienced in implementation of particularly challenging projects.

The modular conveyor belts with or without roofs can cover lengths of up to 400 metres and more, realising transport capacities of up to 6,000 persons per hour. They offer many customisation options to match virtually any customer request. These are just some of the properties of the Moving Carpet, which has long ceased to be limited to skiing areas and is proving its high flexibility in theme parks and water parks, on golf courts, at trade fairs and events, or as a supplement for other means of transport as well.
